Extremely light. |
Extremely high quality. |
Flawless fit and finish. |
Really large control surfaces with lots of
throw. |
A perfect 10 for snaps. Snaps with an easily
distinguishable departure facilitated by the
sharp leading edges of the thin wings. Total
control throughout the snap and the stop due to
the forgiveness the extreme light weight
provides. |
A perfect 10 for rollers. Rollers and knife
edge require very little rudder input due to the
enormous side area of the fuse and canopy. The
plane looks wonderful in rollers and tracks very
evenly. It is very neutral at all attitudes. |
A new breed of freestyle plane! The absence of
drag helps this plane do hovering maneuvers much
faster and with more agility than other models.
But, with total stability, again due to the
extremely light weight. The nimbleness combined
with the light weight will really make you enjoy
flying this model! Prepare to be dazzled! |
A perfect 10 on power to weight! |
Light, light, light. Light is expensive,
because to make our planes light, everything
must be light. And, with this model every detail
is engineered to be light! |

Some people might say cost. But, it's no more
money than many pay for their custom built wood
kit. But, this is a much more advanced &
sophisticated model. Fly one and see! |

AT
THE FACTORY IN
GERMANY |
| The plane was assembled at the 3W
Factory in Germany. |
3W

Check out that working scale air intake! |

OUT OF THE BOX |
| The plane came via airfreight and was
here in less than one day! |
The motorbox unbolts easily from the
fuselage leaving the equipment
accessible. |
Here's the motorbox/engine combo with
its many advantages. |
| A shot of the engine mount blind nuts. |
Here is the throttle servo mounting. |
Long arm on the carb; short arm on the
servo! |
| Looks like it turned the powerful 3W 3D
prop at 5600rpm right off of the
assembly line! |
The 3W 3D Propeller! The strength and
accuracy of composite, but made light
enough for 3D. |
A bombproof wing attachment.
Two anti-rotation dowels and two
wing-bolts per side. |
| 3W has excellent 3D servo arms available
for sale. |
The wires were protected throughout the
plane. |
Very fast and easy rudder removal. |

| I installed around 16 bolts and... |
... here's what
I had. :-) |
I was just so impressed with the
appearance! |
| And, the details, wow! |
It looked like a winner! |
Very sleek, yeah! |

THE
FINAL DOD TREATMENT |
| Most of the equipment was already
expertly installed. |
I just mounted the
Fromeco batteries. |
And, soldered on Dean's connectors. |
| This was my first model using an
Emcotec unit. What can I tell
you?... it worked as advertised. :-) |
I would not have wanted to try to sync
up these five servos without the Hitec
Programmer!!! |
The bottom of the wings and stabs were
white. So it was time to call Dennis and
Debby @
Kirbys. |
| Thank you Steve Wilkie of
ONLY RC for designing these
graphics. :-) |
The plastic ball-joint was about 3/8"
from the header right at the engine
head. |
There was no other place to locate it,
so I changed to a metal clevis. |

| 3W uses their own non-offset
rudder horn on the rudder itself
(which is a great rudder horn for
snapping on and off the rudder cables by
hand for easy rudder removal). And, then
uses the above very offset
rudder bellcrank/servo arm. This arm has
adjustment through several pull/pull
wire bolt locations. With this setup you
can get as much rudder travel as you
want while maintaining perfect cable
geometry. 60 degrees or more is not a
problem. When you use offset rudder
control horns, those that take the pivot
point all the way to the hinge line, you
limit the throw of the rudder to less
than 45 degrees. Not only do you get
full throw with the 3W setup, but
adjusting the geometry of the cables
does not require a rework of anything...
just a simple change of which bolt hole
on the arm you use. I wish I knew all
this 3 years ago. Doh! lol |
| The ailerons came setup with about 65+
degrees of throw! However, the elevators
only came with about 40- degrees, so I
had to chop up my new plane. :O I
cut back the covering and sanded down
the bevels all the way around until I
was able to get about 65 degrees on the
elevators, too. Here they are after the
mod. |

AT
THE FIELD |
| Here it is RTF at the field just before
the maiden. I was amped! |
Take off! Try not to think about the
4000 single points of failure! Doh! |
I brought it down on the first flight,
but not for very long! lol |
| Couldn't resist playing in the
grapevines. :-) |
Here's a good shot of those
Kirbys Kustom Graphics! |
I wonder how much they want for that
house! |
| The next day Jim Orsi took a few
pictures! |
Thanks for taking these shots, Jim! |
Needless to say, I was pretty stoked! |
