   FLY-FAN Extra-300s "C"

PROs
Up there with 3W in terms of quality; about as good as it gets.
I still like Extras. It really flies great. Tracks great. etc.
One of, if not, my favorite 3D plane.
This is lighter than the CS version and easier to modify.
CONs
Plenty of modifications and a new rudder was needed to get the control throw authority I want.
Comes out very tail-heavy if every effort isn't made to avoid it.

This is really a great plane! One of the best 3D planes going. Really love flying this plane!

Here it is out of the box, sans wings. Your name carved in the equipment tray is a nice touch. :-) The large wheelpants weighed 1oz each! :O

The wings came white, so first thing to do was to finish the covering. The elevators came single beveled. It took some mods to get this kind of throw. Had to peel back the covering, add material, bevel, and recover.
Had to make a new rudder. About 4" wider at the bottom and 2" wider at the top. Here's a picture of the Emcotec DPSI "ICE" unit used on this plane. A shot of the 3W-150 engine and Supersonic mufflers.
Mark Vogel programmed the Hitec 5945 digital servos.  Mark programmed the servos on the bench with a variation of my method. I really like his method! They came out great!
No one is making exactly what I want for the rudder servo arm. 3W has the right idea with the deep offset and optional mounting holes. 3W's arm is definitely not bad, but I'd like even more resolution if I had my choice. Fellow Ukiah club member, Gus Stutsman, was able to make a bolt-on plate that would give the rudder system the geometry and servo resolution desired.
