Carden 40% EDGE 540

PROs

  Stable.
Rigid.
Good beginner plane for hovering and torque rolling.
Durable.
CONs
Needs two servos per elevator half for me.
Needs three servos per aileron for me
Alot of builders do not go with the stock wing retention design. It's pretty iffy for a plane this heavy.
Can't seem to come up with a good setup for rolling circles.

COMMENTS
Nice plane... but I would prefer something lighter and with larger control surfaces.

The original builder's helper showing the top of the plane. My plane got its start built for someone else, who sold it to me. Although new, the plane had alot of "issues" like no throw.

The cowl ring was broken off. The ignition was hitting the cowl. The barb-less, cable-tie less, bent-tube, carburetor line. The builder did a funky rudder setup that did not work well at all.
The plane trimmed out with 1/2" of aileron and 1/4" elevator required. I had to correct the stab incidence and the wing alignment. The engine thrust was way off, too. The two 50oz tanks were held in with three servo screws into a piece of thin, light, balsa. And, there were alot of other issues. But, you get the idea.

I started in on the wings. sanding down the bevels until I had decent throw.

Next I started in on the stabs. The one on the left is after sanding. I got a stab covered and that got me anxious to finish!

Mickey hooked me up and glassed on the cowl ring. I prepared and painted the cowl, pants, and landing gear. I used DuPont 2-stage, and cleared over the decals.

Here's how I changed the fuse covering.

I added dual elevator servos. Hitec 5945s, of course.

Here's the finished product.
